RAM Vs SSD

RAM or SSD: Which should you upgrade first?

Upgrades are an important part of our system’s performance. We need time from time to time so that the system’s efficiency is maintained and gets even better. Upgrades are also important because there are many applications and software’s which are updated. The update not only takes place in terms of software but also in terms of hardware compatibility; this is where the upgrades will help you. In our Blog we will discuss two types of grades which are RAM upgrades and SSD upgrades, and also about which of these upgrades is beneficial for you in the long run. Although there is no doubt that both these upgrades are important in their own place, we will discuss RAM Vs SSD: Which should you upgrade first?

SSD Upgrades

Benefits of SSD over HDD
Benefits of SSD over HDD

These upgrades are quite popular. There are a number of people these days who are upgrading their system from hard disc drive to SSD. The reason is that the SSD provides a much higher speed in comparison to the hard disc drive. Moreover the upgrade is not very expensive if compared to the amount of efficiency boost it gives to the system. The SSD can become even more beneficial if you choose to get it done by the right people for example you can get your assist upgrade from Digital Hospital. If we are to make you understand the amount of boost SSD imparts to your system we will give you an example if your system has SSD upgrade then a software like Photoshop shall open four to five times faster than earlier, in the similar way if you have a file whose size is near about 1GB then even it will open about three times more quickly then what time it used to take before the upgrade.

RAM upgrade

When it comes to the numerical value of ram it is always preferred to be good the reason is that the better will be the RAM the better will be the speed of your system as far as the upgradation of RAM is concerned it might not make much of an impact on the systems efficiency according to a study it has been seen that after the upgradation of ram there was somewhere only 37% of system boost which is not that significant.

Which one is better: RAM upgrade or SSD upgrade?

RAM upgrade or SSD upgrade
As expected, the SSD results in a massive performance boost when working with the system: with the SSD installed, Photoshop CS5 starts 4 times faster than with the original HDD; the 1GB image file opens 3 times faster. The RAM-only upgrade did not show any improvement in performance when we launched Photoshop. However, when opening the (relatively small) image file, we saw a discernible 37% improvement. Nevertheless, the user still has to wait 10 seconds longer for the file to open than when the HDD is upgraded to SSD (irrespective of whether 2 or 8GB of RAM are installed).

Though if we ponder on the question, of which upgrade is better, then it is also important to note that both RAM and SSD are completely different and independent components in a system and that is why their impact on the system is also different and independent of each other. Rather the question should which upgrade is necessary.

If you want to know about our opinion that which upgrade is better out of the pool then we shall say that SSD upgrade is alone is enough to give your system a significant boost because rams great may not affect the efficiency do the extent to which ssd is a loan capable of doing yes but it you have a good ram for example if you have 8GB RAM or 16GB RAM then also your system will perform exceptionally well and if this is combined with SSD upgrade then there system will be able to do wonders.

Another important aspect about RAM Vs SSD: Which should you upgrade first? Is that so where should search upgrades must be done. You have two options either you can speak help from the company order manufacturers of whose device you are using or you can also choose to get upgrades from third parties like the Digital Hospital. We shall suggest you to go with the third party upgrades as the cost of upgradation will be reasonable in comparison to what is offered by the manufacturers.

Now are readers must be concerned about the cost of the upgrades. The cost of the upgrades of any of the two components is different but very much in your reach. So cost of the upgrades should not be your worry.

Why are we discussing this question of RAM Vs SSD: Which should you upgrade first? It is because we all need our systems should be in a proper condition to help us. These upgrades are important but which is important is also necessary to understand.

Upgrade Your Laptop With an SSD

How to Upgrade Your Laptop With an SSD

In today’s blog, we are going to discuss how and where to Upgrade Your Laptop With an SSD which is a process that seems to be quite complex but is very simple only if you have easy access to your hard drive via a removable panel towards the bottom of the laptop. The steps will help the people that have a removable panel, cloning your system and making the big swap of hard drives. The premiere step in Where to Upgrade Your Laptop With an SSD, is to find the right kind of SSD form factor and interface. The rest of the things come after you go for or the big decision of purchasing SSD.

The Pre-requisites

When you are going to buy an SSD for your system make sure that it has enough room for windows partition and any system recovery partitions because that is the key requirement whenever choosing an SSD. Once you have found the suitable SSD for your system the next step is to separate the external hard drive which can be optional. There may be a need to remove the external hard drive in case you have large folders such as photos and videos that might not fit in your SSD.

Preparing the System

Any big swap or any major change when done to a system the first thing one must keep in mind is to keep a backup of the data that was in your system. To create a system image backup in Windows 10 you need to go to the control panel and go to the save backup copies of your file with the file history option. towards the left of the menu, you will find system image backup which will be used to create a system image of an external drive or network location. Following this, you need to move the larger files that are not required to be kept in the SSD. This is required because in most cases the SSD is much smaller on storage as compared to a hard disk drive hence it is very important to move the larger files from the system. Once you have performed moving of the files you need to clean up your drive for additional space. This process can include uninstalling programs you are no longer using, deleting unnecessary files and more.

Connect the SSD

Once you are done with handling the data in your system you need to physically connect the SSD now. To achieve this you need to place the SST in an enclosure or connect it through USB to a SATA adaptor. Once done connected to your laptop with the USB cable. The next step is to initiate the SSD. In any case, if your SSD does not get detected in your system then you need to head to the Windows disk management tool in which you need to search and look for disk management and choose the “create and format hard disk drive partition” option. There if it is reflecting as not initialized go on to right click and choose “initialize disk” to initialize it. Once this step is done you need to resize the current drive partition to be the same size or smaller than the SSD. In case your current disk’s primary partition is not larger than the SSD then you will be required to shrink the partition so that the other system recovery partitions are comparatively smaller than the SSD. So to do that right-click on the OS partition and choose the shrink option.

Clone your hard drive

To perform this particular step you need to first install disk cloning software and further select the source and destination drive in the cloning software. Make sure that you take the “optimize for SSD” option there. Once done you need to review the layout and start cloning. This process may take up about 45 minutes to complete depending upon the mileage of your system.

Clone your hard drive
(1) For instance, cloning a disk to multiple systems needs two steps: you need to clone the original disk to a data repository (saved as an image file) and it will be cloned to the bare disk from there.
(2) If you clone a hard drive in Windows 7/8/10 for a computer upgrade, you can directly clone the original drive to another disk like SSD in the same computer. This way doesn’t have an intermediate step. Source : https://www.partitionwizard.com/clone-disk/clone-a-hard-drive.html

Now you need to physically swap your current drive with the SSD. For which you need to perform the following steps:

  • Turn the computer off and further remove the back panel.
  • Look if any screws are securing your drive to the laptop then you need to unscrew them.
  • Remove the old drive about 30 to 45 degrees and pull it out to avoid any damage.
  • Now you need to place the SSD and put the back panel on.

If you are afraid to perform the steps in Where to Upgrade Your Laptop With an SSD then you can consult Digital Hospital.
